Why Space Age?

There are many design movements I admire, but Space Age design has always fascinated me the most.

Perhaps that has something to do with my background as a photographer. For more than twenty-five years, I have looked at the world through composition, light, form, and balance. Those same qualities are reflected in the furniture of the 1960s and 1970s. These are designs that are not only functional but also sculptural—pieces that naturally draw attention without ever demanding it.

What inspires me most is the optimism that defines this era. Space Age design emerged during a time when designers genuinely believed the future could be better, smarter, and more innovative. New materials such as fiberglass, ABS plastic, and moulded plastics made it possible to create forms that had never existed before. Designers were no longer limited by tradition and began to rethink the way people would live, work, and interact with their surroundings.

That spirit of innovation is still visible today in the work of designers such as Joe Colombo, Verner Panton, Pierre Paulin, and Eero Aarnio. Many of their creations continue to feel remarkably contemporary, even decades after they were first introduced. To me, that is the true definition of timeless design: objects that transcend the era in which they were created.

I don't collect these pieces simply because they are rare or carry a famous name. I collect them because they evoke something. They tell a story, possess a unique character, and have the ability to transform an interior with a single, carefully chosen object.

Baan Collection was built on that belief. My goal is to curate a collection that is not only visually beautiful but also celebrates the vision, craftsmanship, and originality behind every piece. Each object is carefully selected for its authenticity, quality, historical significance, and lasting appeal.

For me, Space Age design is much more than vintage furniture. It represents a remarkable period when creativity, technology, and craftsmanship came together to redefine modern living. These are objects that remind us that the most enduring ideas often come from those who dare to think differently.

That is why I continue searching for these extraordinary pieces—not simply to collect them, but to give them a new life in homes where they can once again be admired, appreciated, and enjoyed every day.

Because truly great design is never defined by time.

It continues to inspire.
